Fusion Hairdressing Academy presentation

 

 

We are very proud and happy to let you know that Fusion has now achieved Centre Based Status with awarding body VTCT, a real plus in the hairdressing and Beauty world, as our Academy is now fully qualified to teach and award certificates in:- Barbering NVQ Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 Hairdressing and Beauty Level 1,2,3 and 4 Certificate in Hairdressing and Beauty GCSE Level 2 A1 awards Assessor awards And Nail qualifications. This is all down to the hard work of Tanya Sutcliffe, after achieving her Cert Education she has gone on to gain all of these teaching qualifications over the past 5 years of hard work. This year we have 12 of our own apprentices already in the programme and also 4 external Students from External Salons. Fusion is also proud to announce two new members of Staff in Geoff and Kim Mead. Geoff and Kim will be taking ours and future students through their Functional Skills programme (Maths and English) in Level 1 and level 2 enabling students to achieve the full Hairdressing qualification framework in Level 2 and Level 3 Hairdressing and Beauty.

Fusion’s Hairdressing Academy was Launched after Fusion moved into its new premises in November 2007. Fusion has always trained its own staff, right from leaving school and taking the student through NVQ Level2 and 3 and onto running their own column on the shop floor.

When Fusion moved into its new salon it gave us the facilities to be able to provide a service to to the schools within the area and give training to Pre – Sixteens as well as our own apprentices

Fusion offer the training to year 10 and 11 students in schools around the Great Yarmouth area. The Academy can cater for up to 20 students a day in half day slots, 10 students in the morning and 10 students in afternoon. The academy runs Mon – Fri with Optional Saturday assistant work possible with professional mentoring.

In 2015 Fusion were very proud to have won the Gt Yarmouth Spirit of Enterprise Awards for Investment in Young People, In 2016 Fusion followed that up by winning it again and also Best Business Idea.

Core Curriculum   

All Students to study at school for a minimum of Five GCSE’s, these to include :-

English Language and Literature

Science

Mathematics

Others accordingly to the talents of the student and expertise of the school

These subjects are deemed as necessary to compliment this vocational subject, Students also need to come with the recommendation of the school and with a 90%+ attendance pattern.

Aims of Course

Improve students aspirations.

Bridge the “skills gap” within our local labour market.

Increase the number of Students leaving school with qualifications, including  Vocational Qualifications.

Provide a progression route to Further/Higher Education and to the workplace.

Improve attendance rates and reduce exclusions from    Schools

Relevance of their work in school to the world of work

  •       Basic health and hygiene certificate

The qualification achieved is a GCSE – through VTCT certificate in hair and beauty therapy:

This qualification meets all schools requirements for the schools league tables.

Whilst on this programme students achieve:-

Schools Role in the programme

  • Schools role is vital in continuing to help students gain academic qualifications in subjects relevant to all areas of work.
  • Students complete GCSE’s in English, Mathematics and other GCSE’s subjects according to the talents of the student and expertise of the school.
  • Schools help in co-ordination of the whole course as well as providing pastoral care & administrative procedure

Fusions Commitment

  • Provide full training facilities.
  • Provide mentoring for each student.
  • Provide full NVQ level 1 training.
  • Work closely with Schools, attendance etc.
  • Work closely with colleges for NVQ assessments.
  • Assess students on site with  our own assessors.
  • Fully assess all students with a view to full time employment

Students Commitment

  •  To attend Fusion on their given day.
  •  Attend for the given hours.
  •  Provide own personal equipment.
  •  Behave in and adult and responsible way whilst at          Fusion.
  •  Agree to take part in all training activities.
  •  Dress smartly or in Fusion’s uniform style.

Post – 16 Progression

  •  Students have the opportunity to start NVQ’s early and to use it as a vehicle through which they can access college and post – 16 apprenticeships.
  • By the end of year 11 students will have the opportunity of :-
  • Maintaining their vocational area and progress further.
  • Transferring to another NVQ Course.
  • Transferring to a modern apprenticeship.
  • Full time employment in the hairdressing industry.

Possibly continuing in a full time role with Fusion.

Being a fully self centred VTCT Academy Fusion is now training apprentices from other salons and taking them through NVQ Level 2 and NVQ Level 3.
